OVERVIEW

ROLE OF QI COACH

A QI Coach supports the I-QIPS by coaching and mentoring trainees and/or teams conducting quality improvement projects at their respective clinical sites. As such, coaches may be assigned to provide small-group coaching during I-QIPS training courses, and more experienced coaches may also provide individualized coaching to trainees, as assigned, between course sessions.

All coaches receive faculty development training through the I-QIPS to strengthen their improvement skills and enhance their ability to effectively coach and facilitate individuals and QI project teams. In doing so, they also support the implementation of improvement efforts across the College and affiliated institutions.

Additionally, qualified QI Coaches may be invited to serve as course facilitators (e.g., master teacher, course faculty, instructor) for select I-QIPS training courses, based on their interests and demonstrated experience.

PARTICIPATION EXPECTATIONS

QI Coaches are expected to meet the requirements outlined below, and submission of a QI Coach application confirms understanding of and commitment to these expectations:

Ongoing Training

Attend at least one to two (1–2) I-QIPS faculty development sessions per academic year.

Note:
  • New I-QIPS coaches are also required to attend a New QI Coach Training and Orientation session prior to participating in any I-QIPS training course.

Workshop Coaching (In-Session)

Serve as a workshop coach during scheduled in-session course activities for at least one (1) I-QIPS training course per academic year.

Note:
  • Qualified QI Coaches may also be invited to serve as course facilitators (e.g., master teacher, course faculty, instructor) for select I-QIPS training courses, depending on their interests and demonstrated levels of experience.
  • Experienced and qualified QI Coaches may also be invited to provide personalized coaching (between sessions) to I-QIPS learner(s) or project teams, as assigned.

Conflict of Interest (COI) Disclosures

Complete Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures upon request by the Baylor College of Medicine Division of Continuing Professional Development (DCPD).

Ensure timely and complete submission of all required disclosures by the stated deadlines to maintain eligibility to participate in courses.

Note:
  • In collaboration with the DCPD, continuing education (CE) credit is offered for select I-QIPS training courses. Therefore, and in alignment with ACCME reaccreditation requirements, all individuals serving in coaching or teaching/course facilitation roles must have an active COI disclosure on file with the DCPD prior to the start date of any course in which they will participate.

QI COACH TRAINING & ORIENTATION

All new I-QIPS QI Coaches are required to attend a New QI Coach Training & Orientation Session prior to participating in any I-QIPS training course. The 60- to 90-minute session is typically offered in the summer to prepare new coaches for their participation in the fall QI Jump Start course.

Session details provided directly to selected coaches.

Attendance at the session qualifies as one of two I-QIPS Faculty Development sessions required of QI Coaches per academic year. Attendees must complete the Attendance Sign-In Form for the session to record their attendance.
