APPLICATIONS CLOSED

Applications are closed for the Fall 2025 (Group: CAQHI-5) cohort of the Certificate for Added Qualification in Healthcare Improvement (CAQHI) Program. Applicants are notified directly regarding selection decisions.

This intermediate-level QI certificate program is comprised of the following components:

  • Two QI training courses: (6 in-person sessions per course)
    • Course 1: QI Jump Start - Start Date: September 9, 2025
    • Course 2: Leading Healthcare Improvement - Start Date: February 3, 2026
  • One Healthcare Improvement Capstone Project - Submission Deadline: June 30, 2026


The CAQHI Program is open to healthcare professionals in the Texas Medical Center, as follows (although, space is limited):

  • BCM & Affiliated Employees (faculty, fellows/advanced trainees, staff)
    Registration Fee: No Cost

  • Non-BCM Healthcare Professionals
    Registration Fee: $2,500 (invoiced upon acceptance)

QI project teams are welcome to participate together in the program. However, a separate CAQHI Program application should be submitted by each team member.

Application Overview


PROGRAM COMPONENTS

The CAQHI Program (Fall 2025, CAQHI-5) includes the following three components:

  • Course 1: QI Jump Start* - Start: September 9, 2025
  • Course 2: Leading Healthcare Improvement* - Start: February 3, 2026
  • Healthcare Improvement Capstone Submission - Due: June 30, 2026

*Each course is comprised of six interactive, in-person sessions with CME and MOC credit available.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

The CAQHI Program is open to the following individuals, space-permitting:

  • BCM & Affiliated Employees
    Faculty, Fellows/Advanced Trainees, Staff
    Registration Fee: No Cost

  • Non-BCM Employees
    Healthcare Professionals from Institutions in the Texas Medical Center
    Registration Fee: $2,500 (invoiced upon acceptance)

Team Participation: QI project teams are welcome to participate in the program together. However, each team member must submit a separate application.

STEP 1

Course 1: QI Jump Start - Fall 2025 (1586-10)

The Quality Improvement (QI) Jump Start course is the first of two required courses in the CAQHI Program.

This intermediate-level course, consisting of six interactive workshop sessions, builds upon foundational skills and introduces key concepts that will be reinforced throughout the program.

Course topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Systems/design thinking and redesign
  • Models for healthcare improvement
  • Basic measures and tools for conducting QI
  • Adult learning theory and mentoring
  • QI scholarship

Course Completion Requirements

The requirements for successfully completing Course 1: QI Jump Start, as part of the CAQHI Program, are described on the CAQHI - Program Overview page, as well as on the course overview page referenced above.

STEP 2

Course 2: Leading Healthcare Improvement - Spring 2026 (1601-8)

The Leading Healthcare Improvement (LHI) course is the second of two required courses in the CAQHI Program.

This advanced-level course, consisting of six interactive workshop sessions, is designed to develop leaders of interprofessional improvement teams within their clinical settings.

Course topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Transformational goals
  • Effective leadership
  • Identifying internal and external stakeholders essential to change projects
  • Cultural barriers and facilitators of organizational change

Course Completion Requirements

The requirements for successfully completing Course 2: Leading Healthcare Improvement (LHI), as part of the CAQHI Program, are described on the CAQHI - Program Overview page, as well as on the course overview page referenced above.

STEP 3

Healthcare Improvement Capstone Project (Group: CAQHI-5)

The submission of a completed healthcare improvement capstone project is the final required component of the CAQHI Program.

Each enrolled learner is responsible for developing and completing, as part of their coursework for Course 1 and Course 2, a leadership-approved improvement project for final submission at the end of the certificate program.

Note: This final capstone submission is separate from the QI Project assignments submitted at the conclusion of Courses 1 and 2.

Capstone Completion Requirements

Successful completion of the Capstone Project requires that the project is continuously developed and implemented across both CAQHI Program-required courses.

Completion must also meet the CAQHI Program - Criteria for Completion, including the specific items outlined in the Capstone Requirements and Criteria section below.

Submission Deadline:
Tuesday, June 30, 2026 @ 11:59 PM


SUBMITTING YOUR CAPSTONE PROJECT

After reviewing the Capstone Requirements and Criteria section (below) and ensuring your capstone project aligns with the stated Project Requirements:

  • STEP 1. Complete each item listed in the Submission Requirements section.

  • STEP 2. Use the below button to access the Capstone Submission Form for the respective CAQHI Program Group in which you are enrolled. (Note: If prompted, BCM learners should enter their BCM ECA credentials, and non-BCM learners should enter the username and password [or currrent password if updated] provided to them at the start of the program.)

Capstone Requirements and Criteria


PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

The completed capstone project should be leadership-approved and a culmination of the learner's applied learning over the term of the certificate program (across both required courses).

Further, the project should include at least one (1) full/complete Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle (not including baseline data collection), and data from the PDSA cycle must be presented in the required Capstone Abstract submission described below.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Each of the below items is required for the capstone submission process. You will be prompted to enter or upload these items when completing the Capstone Submission Form noted above (Step 2).

  • QI PROJECT REGISTRY: The capstone project must be registered in the I-QIPS QI Project Registry at the start of Course 1 (QI Jump Start), with ongoing project updates recorded in the registry across the duration of the certificate program: Course 1, Course 2 (LHI), and through project completion/close-out.

    Note: ALL sections and data fields of the QI Project Registry must be fully completed for your project, at the time of its submission. The QI Project Registry is used by I-QIPS Leadership to review submitted Capstone Projects.

    Tip: When completing the Capstone Submission Form, you will need the following information from the QI Project Registry for your registered project:

    • Project Title
    • Project Implementation Location
    • Project ID #
    • Project Link (URL)

  • CAPSTONE ABSTRACT: The completed capstone project should be submitted as a 500-word abstract, and the abstract must include ALL of the following components:

    • Background
    • Relevance/Impact
    • SMART Aim/Goals
    • Methods/Interventions
    • Results
    • Conclusions/Implications

    These components are described more fully in the Capstone Submission Form.

  • OPTIONAL FIGURE: One (1) optional figure may be included in the submission, if applicable.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The submitted healthcare improvement Capstone Project (Abstract), described above, will be evaluated based upon the Capstone Evaluation Rubric provided with the Capstone Submission Form noted above (Step 2).
