Attendance Policy

Due to the interactive nature of the course and with each session building upon content and discussions from previous sessions, learners are required to attend and actively participate in ALL sessions, in order to remain enrolled in the course. Attendance is incorporated into the grade structure for the course. As such, learner attendance at each session is documented and tracked.

Attendance, along with other course requirements (including but not limited to timely submission of assignments and completion of required course assessments), are reviewed regularly by I-QIPS leadership, and an initial email notification may be sent to a learner who has not signed in for a given session (see Required Course Assignments & Evaluations below). Learners who continue to miss course sessions may be automatically withdrawn from the course without notice.

Attendance Sign-In Instructions
Attendance records are based on the Attendance Sign-In Sheet provided at each session. Learners are solely responsible for ensuring that they have completed (correctly and on time) the Attendance Sign-In Sheet for EACH session they attend. Learners who sign in are recorded as being present for the session; all others are recorded by default as being absent.

Required Course Assignments & Assessments

Assignments

Learners are expected to complete and submit (on time) all homework/pre-work assignments by their respective deadlines, as well as to arrive to each session on time and prepared to present and discuss their completed assignments. Doing so serves to benefit both the individual learner and all course participants by enhancing and facilitating robust discussions during each session.

As part of the coursework, each learner is expected to complete a QI Project Template, as well as to develop an Abstract and Poster, featuring the work-in-progress (WIP) status of their improvement project. Learners are expected to update and refine their projects after each session, based on the content, discussions, and feedback received from the respective session. By systematically applying to their projects after each session the QI principles and tools discussed during the session, the learner is able to move their project (session-by-session) closer to its implementation in their clinical area at the College and/or an affiliated institution. As such, each learner is expected to register (prior to Session 2) their improvement project in the QI Project Registry and subsequently document their progress throughout the term of the course by entering project updates in the QI Project Registry after each session.

By the end of the course, learners are expected to:

  • present (Poster Presentation) their in-progress work during the final session;
  • finalize and submit their completed QI Project TemplatePoster, and Abstract, as well as complete all required course assessments, as described below; and
  • complete all (or nearly all, depending on the status of their project) sections and data fields of the QI Project Registry for their respective improvement project.

More information to be provided during the course.

Assessments

The following assessments are required for the course and must be completed by all learners: Pre-Course Assessment, Post-Course Assessment, Outcomes Assessment (administered about 3 - 4 months after the conclusion of the final session). Each assessment typically takes about 5 - 10 minutes to complete. The Pre-Course Assessment will be provided to learners prior to the start of the course, and must be completed prior to the first session as indicated by its designated deadline.

Note: Throughout the course, learners are asked at the end of each session to complete a Speaker Survey to assess the faculty who conducted the session, as well as assess the content presented during the session. Comments are collected anonymously, and it typically takes 2 - 3 minutes to complete. The feedback provided by the learners are used to improve the sessions and overall course, and the speaker ratings are included in letters provided to the faculty for inclusion in their educational portfolios. For this reason, learner participation in these surveys are greatly appreciated!

Course Completion Certificate

At the discretion of I-QIPS Leadership, a Course Completion Certificate is issued to each eligible learner/course participant who has completed and satisfied all course requirements. Certificate eligibility is impacted by attendance records, participation in discussions, and on-time assignment submissions and assessment completions throughout the course. Eligibility decisions are made only after the I-QIPS has received all course requirements across all course participants (including receipt of all required course assessments, as noted above).

Note: Refer to the QI Jump Start course overview page for a full description of course expectations and the requirements/criteria for course completion.

MOC Part 4 & PI-CME

Eligible physician and physician assistant course participants, who satisfactorily complete the course, can earn MOC Part 4 credit/points or NCCPA Category 1 PI-CME credit, respectively, for qualified QI posters presented at the conclusion of the course.

If approved, MOC Part 4 (Improvements in Medical Practice) credit is issued to physicians by participating Member Boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Likewise, NCCPA Category 1 Performance Improvement Continuing Medical Education (PI-CME) credit is issued to physician assistants by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

For questions, please contact: BCM MOC Program

Presentation at Professional Conference/Meeting

After completing the course, learners are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to an academic or professional conference/meeting of their choosing to present their improvement project, and to notify the I-QIPS (contact email listed below) of their accepted presentation.

Additionally, learners are invited to attend the conferences listed on the Education page. Unless otherwise noted, there typically is no fee to attend; however, registration is required.
