Course Schedule

COVID-19 UPDATE

June 2020: Due to COVID-19 health considerations, this course offering has been transitioned to a virtual learning environment. At this time, all scheduled sessions will meet virtually via Zoom video-conference. Should conditions change during the term of the course to allow for in-person meetings, some of the later sessions may be transitioned back to being held in a classroom environment. Learners will be notified accordingly of any such changes.

For the purpose of facilitating the level of active participation and interactive discussions expected throughout each session, all learners should have the proper equipment and internet capability necessary to access and join each Zoom session by webcam, which should remain on for the entirety of each session.

Additionally, learners are asked to ensure that they complete and submit their pre-work assignment (homework assignment) for each session by the respective deadlines noted on Blackboard, and to be prepared to discuss their work during each session. This will help to enhance and facilitate robust discussions during each of the virtual sessions.

In order to remain enrolled in the course, learners must attend and actively participate in all of the scheduled workshop sessions, as well as complete and submit on time all homework assignments (see Required Course Assignments & Evaluations below).

Attendance Policy

Due to the interactive nature of the course, with each session building upon content and discussions from its previous sessions, learners are required to attend and actively participate in ALL sessions, in order to remain in the course.

Attendance at each session is strictly documented and tracked. Learners are responsible for ensuring that their attendance at each session is recorded by signing in at the START OF each session. Late arrivals may not be captured.

Attendance rosters, along with other course requirements (including but not limited to timely submission of assignments), is reviewed regularly by I-QIPS leadership, and automated email notifications are sent to any learners who appears not to have signed in for a session.

Attendance Sign-In Process for Virtual Sessions

At the start of each virtual session, learners should: 1) COMPLETE the Zoom Meeting Registration for the respective virtual session, AND 2) ENSURE that, at the start of and throughout the entirety of the virtual meeting, their first AND last names are displayed on the Zoom Meeting Participants list. The displayed Zoom Meeting Participants list from each virtual session will be used to confirm and record attendance.

Required Course Assignments & Evaluations

Assignments: Throughout the course, learners are expected to complete and submit (on time) all homework assignments (also referred to as pre-work or pre-session assignments), as well as arrive to each session prepared to present and discuss their completed assignments.

As part of the coursework, learners will complete a QI Project Template, as well as develop a Work-In-Progress (WIP) Poster and Poster Abstract, featuring their improvement project. Learners are expected to update and further refine these items throughout the course/after each session, based on content and discussions (as well as feedback received) from the sessions. The WIP Poster should feature the improvement project that the learner worked on during the course, which they also will be implementing in parallel in their clinical area at the College and/or an affiliated institution through the application of the quality improvement principles and tools discussed during the sessions.

At the end of the course, learners are expected to submit (by the designated deadline) final versions of their QI Project TemplateWIP Poster, and Poster Abstract, as well as to present their in-progress work during the final session. More information to be provided during the course.

Evaluations: The following assessments are required for the course and must be completed by all learners:

  • Pre-Course Assessment
  • Post-Course Assessment
  • Outcomes Assessment (administered about 3-4 months after the conclusion of the final session).

Each assessment typically takes about 5 - 10 minutes to complete

Please Note: At the end of each session, learners also have the opportunity to complete a Speaker Survey, to assess the faculty who conducted the session. The comments are collected anonymously, and it typically takes 2 - 3 minutes to complete. The feedback from learners are used to improve the sessions and overall course, and the speaker ratings are included in letters provided to the respective faculty for inclusion in their faculty portfolios. For this reason, learner participation in these surveys are greatly appreciated!

Course Completion Certificates: At the conclusion of the course, learners are eligible to receive a certificate of completion, provided that they successfully completed the course and met all course requirements, as reviewed and determined by I-QIPS leadership. Please refer to the QI Jump Start course overview page for a full description of course expectations and requirements/criteria for completion.

Poster Presentation

After completing the course, learners are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to an academic conference of their choosing to present their improvement project, and to notify the I-QIPS (contact email listed below) of their accepted presentation.

Additionally, learners are invited to attend the conferences listed on the Education page. Unless otherwise noted, there typically is no fee to attend; however, registration is required.
